Browse dogs and cats in need of loving homes just like yours.

Since 2010, The Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch has united once-homeless pets with loving and committed adopters. Dogs and cats available for adoption have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, examined by a veterinarian, and are up to date on vaccinations appropriate for their age. Our successful adoption program is based on matching the needs of our animals with the lifestyles of our adopters.  Thank you for choosing to adopt!

Our Adoption Process:

We require an adoption application, reference checks, and adoption contract. Our shelter is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday,  11 am to  4pm.  To inquire about an adoptable animal during closed hours, please call 941-361-1071 and leave a message with your contact information and one of our Adoption Counselors will return your call.

Adoption Fees:
Kittens (under 1 yr. old)  –  $85
Cats –  $75
Puppies (under 1 yr. old)  – $300
Young Adult Dogs (1-2 yrs. old)  -$250
Adult Dogs  – $200
Prices may vary based on special promotions and dogs/cats (e.g. Purebreds and Seniors).

Things to know before adopting from The HSLWR...

1) Adoption Applications are only available in person at the HSLWR after meeting our animals.  Unfortunately, we can not email applications and they are not available online.

2) We screen all of our adoption applications and check all references carefully, therefore it will take a day or so before you can take  your new pet home.

3) All applications are evaluated in the order received.  However, this does not mean that the first application will always be the best fit for the pet.  Our primary focus is on finding the best environment for each pet to ensure forever homes.

4) We are unable to "hold" any pets or take deposits.  We want all of our pets to have the best opportunities to find the perfect home for their needs.

5: We will schedule a "Meet and Greet" if you are adopting a dog and already have a dog(s) at home.  This is not neccessary if you are adopting a cat.
